Summer Festival & Summer Reading

Each year, summer brings two major programs to the Coronado Public Library.

Once Upon a Library… a magical summer of stories began!

This year’s Summer Reading Program runs from June 1 to August 8, inviting kids, teens, and adults to dive into new adventures, discover enchanted tales, and unlock prizes along the way. ๐ŸŒŸ

Register at coronado.beanstack.org and log your reads online—or, starting June 16, visit the Reading Booth in the Library lobby to log in person and claim your prizes. ๐ŸŽ

Why join? Summer Reading encourages a lifelong love of books in kids and teens and offers adults a refreshing way to stay mentally engaged and inspired.

Don’t forget the prizes!. Kids will earn a prize and an entry into the kid's grand prize raffle for every 5 reads reported. Kids can report up to 20 reads for up to 4 prizes and 4 entries into the grand prize raffle. Teens earn an entry into the teen grand prize raffle by reporting two reads. Teens in 6th-12th grade can report up to eight reads for four entries into the raffle and four scratch-off tickets. Adults earn an entry into the adult grand prize raffle by reporting two reads you've read. Adults can report up to twenty reads for ten entries into the raffle. It’s not just books that count as reads: audiobooks, graphic novels, magazines, online articles, books read to others, and more all count! Prizes are all made possible thanks to the support of the Friends of the Coronado Public Library and generous local Coronado businesses.

Summer Reading Events for kids will happen every Tuesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. and teen events each Wednesday at 3 p.m. With How to Train Your Dragon Day, a visit from NASA Ambassadors, salt paint fireworks, Bubble Day, and more, it’s going to be a fantastic summer at the Library

This year, we will host Summer on the Strand each Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Silver Strand Youth Center at 1302 Leyte Road. Magicians, storytelling, tidepools, the Coronado Fire Department, and more will be ready to share a fun time with all. These events are open to everyone, but bring your sunscreen as they take place outside.

                                                                    Summer Festival

The Library’s Summer Festival features a slate of programs geared towards adults each year. You can attend lectures, concerts, workshops, author visits, and more all summer long. The best part? It’s all free!

Our Summer Concert Series kicks off with a patriotic flair with the Navy Band Southwest Woodwind Quartet on June 13. This year will feature the Latin rhythms of Club Havana, the funky sounds of the Waylon Hicks Project, award-winning pianist Ed Kornhauser, a nostalgic journey through the Great American Songbook with Glenn Kramer, and the smooth jazz tunes of the Rob Thorsen Trio on select Friday’s.

Explore your artistic side with beaded succulent arrangements, decoupaged seashells, miniature paintings, and clay flower making. Keep learning all summer long with lectures on AI, Lewis Carroll and the magic of Wonderland, the WWII battle of Leyte Gulf, and hidden stories of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. With cooking demos, a fragrance workshop, and even a Wonderland-inspired drawing session, there’s something for everyone this summer at the Library.

Be sure to check out everything happening this summer at the library by heading to cplevents.org.

The Summer Festival is made possible thanks to the support of the Friends of the Coronado Public Library.
